Melamine / TFL

Melamine-faced board, also referred to as thermally fused laminate (TFL), is one of the most practical options for modern kitchen cabinetry.

It is available in a wide range of solid colors, woodgrains, textures and matt finishes. Melamine can be used on particle board or other suitable substrates and provides a finished, easy-to-maintain cabinet surface.

Lacquered MDF

Lacquered MDF provides a smooth, painted appearance and is available in a wide range of colors.

Natural Wood Veneer

Veneer allows modern cabinetry to incorporate natural wood character while maintaining clean contemporary door profiles. Different veneer species, grades, grain selections, stains and finishing systems can affect the final specification and cost.

High-Pressure Laminate (HPL)

HPL is a hard-wearing decorative laminate available in a broad range of colors, patterns, woodgrains and textures.

TAQ can coordinate HPL from Chinese suppliers as well as international brands such as Formica, depending on the project specification and budget. International branded HPL can carry a higher material cost, while suitable locally produced alternatives can provide a more economical option.

Solid Walnut

Solid walnut provides a deeper natural wood tone and distinctive grain pattern. It can be used for cabinet doors or selected elements where the design calls for a stronger natural-wood character.

Walnut can also be combined with lighter cabinetry, stone surfaces or painted finishes to create contrast within a modern kitchen.

Solid Oak

Solid oak can be used for cabinet doors and selected cabinet components where a genuine solid-wood construction is required.

Oak has a distinctive grain and can be finished in natural, stained, matte or other specified treatments. In modern kitchens, it is often combined with simple flat or minimally detailed door designs.

Cabinet Carcass: Particle Board, MDF or Plywood

Particle board, MDF and plywood are three commonly used engineered wood substrates for kitchen cabinet carcasses. The appropriate choice depends on the cabinet construction, project specification, performance requirements and budget. Each substrate can be combined with different surface finishes, including melamine, HPL and natural wood veneer, while some finishes, such as lacquer, are more commonly specified with particular substrates such as MDF.

Particle board is widely used for kitchen cabinetry because it provides a practical and economical cabinet-body solution. With an appropriate decorative surface such as melamine or HPL, it can provide a consistent and easy-to-maintain finish for residential and commercial kitchens. 

MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard) is a dense, uniform engineered wood panel with a smooth surface. It can be used for cabinet carcasses as well as doors and other cabinet components, depending on the construction system. Its uniform composition makes it particularly suitable for applications requiring machining, painted finishes or other smooth surface treatments. 

Plywood is an engineered wood panel made from multiple layers of wood veneer bonded together. It is generally a higher-cost option than particle board and can be specified when the project requires or prefers plywood cabinet construction.
